Your Home Page Checklist
Everything your home page needs. Nothing it does not.
Your home page is not an art gallery. It is a sales page. Here is what needs to be on it, in order of priority.
Above the Fold (What People See Without Scrolling)
- Business name
- What you do in one sentence. “Residential and commercial plumbing serving Jackson, Brandon, Flowood, Pearl, and Ridgeland MS.” Not “innovative solutions for your fluid transport needs.”
- Phone number. Big. Clickable on mobile.
- Call to action button. “Call Now” or “Get a Free Quote” or “Book Online.” One clear thing you want them to do.
If someone lands on your home page on their phone and cannot call you within 2 taps, your home page is broken.
Below the Fold
- Services list. Brief overview with links to your services page.
- Service area. Where you work. List the cities or counties. “Central Mississippi” or “Jackson metro area” or “Rankin and Hinds County.”
- Social proof. Google review stars, a few testimonials, or logos of certifications.
- About snippet. 2-3 sentences about who you are and why you are good at this. Link to full about page.
- Phone number again. At the bottom. Always.
What to Leave Off
- Sliders. Nobody reads them. They slow your site down.
- Stock photos of people in hard hats shaking hands. Use your real photos or none at all.
- A wall of text about your company history. Save it for the about page.
- Links to your social media if you do not post regularly. An abandoned Facebook page is worse than no Facebook page.
